I couldn’t be more proud to have my first solo exhibition in France in Sistereon, the village where my grandfather was born and raised. I'm honored to be invited by the Cultural and Heritage Department of Sisteron to exhibit here, and I’m grateful for how they’ve welcomed me into their community.
After my solo exhibition opening in May at Calloway Fine Art & Consulting in Washington DC, I returned to Mison to prepare for this exhibition. I followed the concept of "Pathways: Rediscovering My Roots". However, I found myself concentrating on the intimate spaces from my walks around my studio. I chose to embrace the richness and beauty to cultivate peace and solace through my work, especially through these difficult times in the world today.
This exhibition includes 8 paintings. Some smaller paintings that encompass the spaces around my studio in Mison France. The largest painting that is exhibited for the first time, "Passages" (pictured first), was developed after a 7 1/2 hour hike in the Gorge de Verdon (Grand Canyon of France). I painted this around the same time that I painted "Passage" in 2024, which was included in the Venice Biennale, Personal Structures. Others were from my memories and recent visits to the gorge de Verdon, just a little over an hour's drive from my studio.
Sisteron
Sisteron is on the Route Napoleon in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. It is known as the gateway to Provence with it’s narrow opening between two mountain ridges where two rivers meet: the Durance and the Büech.
If you come during my exhibition, be sure to check out the 70th anniversary of the Festival des Nuits de la Citadelle. This is one of the largest festivals of music, dance and theater in Southern France which takes place every July and August and makes it the most important cultural event in Haute-Provence. For more information about Sisteron go to the Office de Tourism website.
